Reach Out to Us
When a family member dies, it can be unclear what steps to take. It’s important to reach out to us as soon as possible so we can guide you through this process. Most deaths occur due to natural causes and take place in hospitals, aged care facilities, or at home.
In most cases, the attending doctor will issue a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death.
If the death happens in a hospital/hospice or an aged care facility, you can ask the staff to reach out to us once the family has been notified, however please note that they will only contact a funeral director with family approval, otherwise the family need to reach out to us directly.
Please make sure you know which of these is the plan.
For deaths at home, the first step is to contact your loved one’s doctor or palliative care team, who may organise the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death. After this has been done, please contact us.
If the death is sudden and unexpected, and the doctor is unable or unwilling to issue the Medical Certificate, you will need to contact the police. They will investigate the death and report it to the Coroner, who will also arrange for the transfer to the Coroner’s Court in Melbourne. Please reach out to us, and we will work closely with you and the Coroner to ensure your loved one is transferred into our care as quickly as possible.

Meet With Us
The final step is to arrange a meeting (usually in the first 2-3 days) with the appropriate executor/family who will be leading funeral arrangements. We will work with you to determine the best time to meet and provide the guidance you need in making decisions during this emotional time. Our team will assist with any funeral arrangements, ensuring that everything is tailored to your wishes and your loved one’s memory.
